Torquay Museum Celebrating After Being Shortlisted For a National Museum Award
Torquay Museum has been shortlisted for the 2018 Family Friendly Museum award (#FFMA18), organised by www.KidsinMuseums.org.uk. This is the largest Museum award in the U.K, and the only one where children and families nominate their favourite Museum and decide the award winner.
Only 11 Museums in the UK have been shortlisted for this prestigious Family Friendly Museum award this year, so this is a major achievement for Torquay Museum.
Basil Greenwood, Torquay Museum Director said, “I am honoured and delighted that our Museum has received such a vote of confidence from the families who visit us. This is testimony to all the hard work and effort put in by everyone here who strives to make the Museum a top attraction for Torbay and the local area.”
Heather Adams, Learning Officer at Torquay Museum said, “We are absolutely thrilled and so excited to have been shortlisted for this prestigious Family Friendly Museum award (#FFMA18) and would like to thank all the children and families who nominated us. They are at the centre of everything we aim to do at the Museum and our displays, workshops, events and exhibitions (such as our current LEGO models Brick Built blockbuster exhibition) are focused on being family friendly.”
“Torquay Museum is passionate about ensuring that our Museum is a place that sparks a lifelong interest and passion in the arts, culture and history from a very young age. The staff & volunteers have all worked incredibly hard to ensure that everyone is welcomed into the Museum and that we are seen as being central to our community.”
Over the summer, the 11 shortlisted Museums will be judged by visiting families and the winner of the 2018 Family Friendly Museum award will be announced at a ceremony in London on 1st October.
