Fawcett's School Books

Fawcett's School Books

Object of the Week: Torquay-born explorer Percy Fawcett's school books from Newton Abbot College, 1880. Percy Fawcett went onto become world famous looking for the Lost City of Z in the Amazon Jungle in 1925, as seen in the Hollywood movie of his life starring Sienna Miller and Robert Pattinson. He is also the likely inspiration for Indiana Jones.

Our new exhibition shows for the first time, the Fawcett archive. Ten diaries, over 500 letters, historical documents, newspaper cuttings and hundreds of rarely seen photographs contain the detailed accounts of the Fawcett family’s extraordinary journey to discover a lost city, open 25th October!
