What's On at Torquay Museum

English Riviera Film Festival - Classic Crime Films

As part of the annual English Riviera Film Festival, Torquay Museum will show a feast of classic crime films in its 130 seat auditorium with new cinema quality laser projector.

10am         Mildred Pierce
12.10pm    North by Northwest
2.45pm      The Third Man

Tickets £5 each per film at the Museum on the day, or you can book your tickets online in advance by clicking this link (please note that the ticket provider will charge a small booking fee).

The day starts with the Oscar winning 1945 classic Mildred Pierce, starring Joan Crawford, who portrays a hard-working mother who inches towards disaster as she divorces her husband and starts a successful restaurant business to support her spoiled daughter.

Next up is the 1959 Hitchcock classic North by Northwest, starring Cary Grant and James Mason. A New York City advertising executive goes on the run after being mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies.

The crime fest is rounded off by the 1949 British cinematic masterpeice, The Third Man, starring Orson Welles. Pulp novelist Holly Martins travels to shadowy, postwar Vienna, only to find himself investigating the mysterious death of an old friend, Harry Lime.
