Saturday Talk: The Fatal Shore – The Transportation of South Devon Convicts to Tasmania

Date: 22 April 2017

Join us for the first of our brand new series of Saturday lectures and hear the shocking story of the transportation of a Torquay boy, a Brixham carpenter and a Shaldon fisherman as convicts to Tasmania in the early 19th century, and find out the part Devon and its people played in the treatment of those imprisoned there with insights into the terror inflicted on the 65,000 convicts shipped across the ocean to Tasmania.

The talk will be given by Phil Badcott, local historian and Trustee of Torquay Museum. Start time 11:00 am. Tickets are £5 each, available over the phone (01803 293975) or in person from the Torquay Museum Reception.

Friends of Torquay Museum receive a 20% discount of the ticket price.
